President Sadulaev was attacked by more than 350 enemy troops

Publication time: 19 June 2006, 09:47
The DAYMOHK Information Agency reports some details of the battle in Argun, with reference to Ahmad Sardali, Chairman of the Political Council of the International Movement for De-colonisation of Caucasus.

"My friends from Argun just contacted me and told me about some details of the battle," Mr. Sardali said. "This information originates from the immediate witnesses."

By 23:00 of June 16, the area was blocked and surrounded by Russian armoured vehicles, located along the road from Shali to Jokhar (Grozny) up to the town centre, and along the bank of the Argun River.

The town inhabitants expected another "zachistka" (cleansing operation), but the Russians did nothing until very late at night.

Around 1 am on June 17, Russians began to storm the house where the President stayed. According to the witnesses, at least 300 Russian soldiers and about 50 Chechen traitors took part in the operation. Apparently, the president and his few bodyguards defended the house using grenade cup dischargers. The lights from explosions were seen for the next two hours. The locals saw a truck, full of dead bodies, heading away from the place of events. This shows that Russian losses in this battle were much higher than two, as the official Russian sources claimed.
