They betrayed Islam

Publication time: 7 December 2006, 15:41

There are over 1.4 billion Muslims in this world. Yet it is us Muslims that are being subjected to the brutality of the modern world. The majority of oil in this world is under the feet of Muslim nations, yet we allow corrupted leaders to use the rich natural resources in the Muslim world for the well being of the few elites. We Muslims are mostly to blame for many of the shortcomings our brothers and sisters go through.

There are many challenges and many of us will with the will of Allah, succeed in defeating the lies and propaganda that is used to divide Muslims and cause Muslims to fight amongst themselves. Some of these lies are spread by not Christians, Jews or other non-Muslims. They are spread by Muslims who they themselves believe they are talking the truth and it is everyone else that has got Islam wrong. Like many Muslims, their belief and view is effected by their own personal experience in life. They forget that Islam has the solution every problem faced by man and it is not for anyone to change or add their own beliefs to it, including Muslims. Islam is a religion of tolerance, patience and understanding. It is Prophet Muhammad (SWT) that we are to look at if we want to see a perfect example of how a Muslim should be. When anyone, Muslim or not preaches to us, it is our duty to as Muslims to read about our prophets life and what he would had done different situations and so on. Than compare it to what you hear from other Muslims. It might be someone talking on the TV or someone close to you, or even someone that is a highly recognized Muslim Cleric or Imaam. Who ever it might be, we as Muslims must have the knowledge to be able to carry out constructive and understanding debates with those that have a misunderstanding view of Islam.

There are two types that are worst amongst these Muslims. The first are those who call themselves Muslims and yet teach their friends and followers to hate other Muslims. The second are those who believe themselves to be true Muslims, but tell non-Muslims how bad Islam is and that the West needs to help transform Islam into something more like Western democracy. One example of this is the Muslim woman who blamed Islam for her husbands' violence towards her that played a role in a Dutch documentary, where she was praying nude with the writings of the Holy Quran written all around her body. In it, instead of blaming her husband for not following the correct teachings of Islam which clearly forbids violence against women, she blamed Allah and Islam for the violence she suffered in the hands of her husband and her uncle. Muslims have the duty to respect Islam and husbands have the duty to protect and respect their wife as they are responsible to God for their wifes' well being.

There are too much domestic violence against women in this world and as Muslims, we can give better example to other religions by showing them how Islam teaches man to treat women with kindness. We condemn the video that was produced as Islam is not a religion that can be made fun of as people of other religions do to their faiths. If someone does not agree with Islam or blames Islam for something, than talk to Muslims and have debates, but do not make videos such as the one created by Theo van Gogh. Muslims respect their religion, God and their prophets, which is why the Western world does not see majority of the Muslims making jokes about these things as they do. We as muslims must always condemn these kind of stunts by anti-muslim directors, but at the same time acknowledge that there are Muslims that needs to change their attitude towards women inside their culture. The director who created this was assassinated after creating this short 10 minutes.

Another example is a woman from Syria. She is going around the world, giving speeches to non-Muslims, stating that we Muslims are in need of help because inside us, we are imprisoned by our religion which does not give us the freedom we deserve. How far can this be from the truth, we all know that Islam from the start has been a religion of understanding and the problems Muslims face today is not because of Islam, but because of the post-colonial effects caused by Christian Kingdoms such as Britain and the now Imperial.

This shows how as Muslims, we need to read more of the Hadith because by doing so we will learn how to react to different situations, when to be patient and when to take actions. Muslim men also need to not misintepret the Quran when it comes to treating women as it is stated in Surah Al-Nisaa:

"Treat them politely; even if you dislike them, perhaps you disklike something in which God has placed much good."

Muslims should not let their own personal feelings judge and decide what should be done. Instead, they must firstly remember that only Allah is the one that judges who goes to heaven and who does not, as only he alone is the creator and has no partner. Next, read and gain knowledge and understanding of the world, its cultures and people, than use this to challenge those that want to divide Muslims. Without knowledge, we Muslims can never forward in this generation.
