Warning against gossip, calumnies and lies!

Publication time: 29 January 2008, 16:05

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Benevolent.

Dear brethren! It is improper for the Muslims to gossip, calumniate or lie to one another. It is a big sun, for which Allah will strictly inquire on the Day of Judgment, even if the victim will not be demanding it.

In order for you to understand what gossip and calumnies are, let me quote a Hadith (translation of its meaning), which speaks about it clearly and distinctly:

"A woman once came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She asked something and left. The wife of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: ‘How short that woman was'.

"The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) answered: ‘Beware of gossip'. Aisha said: ‘I only said what there is'.

"The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘If you said something that there is not, it would have been a calumny'."

Brethren, be careful, so that you do not fail on the Day of Judgment. Indeed, money, sons or brothers - none will help on that Day of Awe, except the good deeds, -- this will be the Day of Account for all that was done by every one of us.

Indeed, Almighty Allah says in the Holy Koran:

"O you who believe! Avoid most of suspicion, for surely suspicion in some cases is a sin, and do not spy nor let some of you backbite others. Does one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? But you abhor it; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, surely Allah is Oft-returning (to mercy), Merciful."
