According to the Estonian newspaper ERR Uudised, the Estonian army lieutenant colonel, retired, Leo Kunnas, in an interview for this newspaper expressed concern about now increasing military threat of Russia and considered that, taking this into consideration, Estonia has to greatly string up.
"We have to greatly string up so that our defense is not far behind what is happening in Russia. Our state can be estimated at 3 +. The question is, what will happen in five or ten years", said Kunnas.
He added that the Russian army now investing in personnel, equipment, and in gear. Kunnas noted that while the military power of our neighbors - Latvia, Lithuania and Finland - is decreasing.
The heads of Estonia have been given this year a document describing the growth of the military threat of Russia, in particular, near the Estonian border.
The document, intended for official use, says that in 2009 the personnel of the armed gangs of the "Leningrad Military District" increased from 16 535 to 25 704 people.
In the same year Russian revanchists shaped the 25th Motorized Rifle Brigade, which deployed a few hours' drive from the River Narva. Russians very quickly can create a serious impact force from the 76th Pskov Airborne Assault Division, 2nd Pskov Brigade of Special Forces, Luga 9th Artillery Brigade. Luga 26th Missile Brigade has adopted missiles "Iskander-M".
Reconnaissance flights of Russian gang aviation have become frequent, demonstrative flights have been carried out this year by bombers. In the past two years, Russian air force held exercise near the borders of Estonia and Latvia.
The personnel of 336 Naval Infantry Brigade, based in Russian-occupied German Konigsberg, increased from 1227 to 2700 people.
