Freedom fighters kill 26 members of pro-Assad gang

Publication time: 22 June 2012, 21:44

Twenty-six men belonging to the pro-government "Shabiha" armed gang have been killed in Syria's northern Aleppo province. A video showed Assad's thugs covered in blood and piled on top of each other on the side of a road. Some of the gangsters wore army fatigues but some were just wearing t-shirts.

Also on Friday, four senior Alawite army officers had defected from the Assad's regime. A video showed two brigadier generals and two colonels who declared they were joining the opposition. The defections came on Thursday. Thousands of Assad's soldiers have already abandoned the regime, but most are low-level conscripts. The Free Syria Army is made up largely of defectors.
